WOH at Kumu: A Small Design Element in a Much Larger Story

For the exhibition, garments from the Estonian National Museum’s textile collection travelled to Kumu, where they are presented on WOH hangers.

The exhibition explores Estonia’s relationship with Finno-Ugric peoples through collections, expeditions, photography, drawings, art and design, bringing together historical material and contemporary perspectives.

For us, it has been genuinely rewarding to see WOH hangers find their place in such different organisations and environments. Discovering that they could also serve as a way of presenting museum objects was an unexpected application of the design, and a particularly interesting one for us.

We are grateful to the Kumu team for inviting WOH to be part of the exhibition.

A special thank you to curator Linda Kaljund for creating such a multilayered exhibition; to Karl Joonas Alamaa for the exhibition design and artistic interventions, and for bringing WOH hangers into the exhibition; and to Inga Jaagus for making the collaboration so smooth and well organised.

Expedition. The Finno-Ugric and the Power of the Image is on view at Kumu from 2 October 2026 to 21 February 2027.

We at WOH Studio were delighted to contribute in a small way to the making of Kumu’s new exhibition,
Expedition. The Finno-Ugric and the Power of the Image.

When we designed the WOH Hanger, our starting point was the garment — its shape, material and longevity. In the museum context, the hanger takes on a different role: quietly supporting the presentation of garments that carry their own history, craftsmanship and cultural significance.

There is something special about seeing a small design element become part of something much larger — and, in its own modest way, help bring valuable heritage into focus.
